Lookout weekend!!

Ladies – it is Friday and although summer hasn’t arrived, I have summer fever!!!! It’s chilly and overcast in Huntington Beach but I don’t care! Let’s start summer early!! I hear they are having a heatwave in New York. How about your hood?

I want to share with you some of my “Besties” – my favorite things! None of this stuff was given to me (poo) and I don’t have anything to do with the brands. Believe me, I love free stuff and I wish I was getting paid to talk this stuff up but I’m not. So, there’s my disclaimer. This is just stuff that I like. I was my own guinea pig, my own focus group. I will be doing several of these Besties posts. I hope you like them!

SUMMER LOVER – let’s prepare ourselves….

SHAMPOO/CONDITIONER –

I don’t like chemicals! I think they are bad for you. I will be driving you crazy with my recommendations on all things as natural as possible. Don’t worry, I did not stop bathing or shaving. I am not wearing Jesus sandals. I am not baking pot brownies. I am still a city gal and I love my Retin-A cream and my store-bought candy. But I do try to be healthy and natural when I can. So, I go for beauty products without parabens, sulfates and that kind of stuff. This shampoo and conditioner ROCK! I thought I was so cool when I bought them at a specialty store and then I found them at my local supermarket and CVS! So there you go. And they are inexpensive.

BEACH BABY

I am a white girl. The sun does not like me. In fact, you can almost smell something burning when I am out in the sun. I am not as bad as my sister whose friend said “For God’s sake put on some lipstick, you look dead!” (I happen to love her porcelain complexion), but I can tell you from years of experience, I just can;t get tan. So, I turned to the bottle. I have tried them all!! Mystic tans suck. St. Tropez, which every magazine claims is the best, was horrible for me. I turned orange and streaky. The one NOBODY ever mentions is Keihl’s. It is FABULOUS!!! No streaks, lines or weird color. Perfectly lovely. I even was complimented on my tan after using this stuff!!! No joke. And if this can work on me, it can work on anyone of regular color. I also tried this other all natural one from Whole Foods and loved it!!

COVER-UP

Nope. Not talking about sunscreen. Don’t even go there. In the summer (and most of the year), I am not one for a lot of makeup. I tried foundation like three times and just found it exhausting. So, I like easy and fast. Never say that I am fast and easy – I just like things that are – haha. This undereye concealer is the bom.com. From Whole Foods – guess I have been shopping there a lot. If you have dry skin like me, this stuff stays on, blends well and works. Plus – mineral, all natural – yada, yada, yada. They also have a pressed powder that rocks. I also LOVE the tinted moisturizer by Kiehl’s. It looks so natural and has SPF. Sometimes, it’s all I wear and I get compliments – so there!

TOUCH MY BODY

I found this lotion in Hawaii (I know, I am SO COOL) and I LOVE it! You can get it online – www.SheaMoisture.com – it smells divine. You feel like you are in..well Hawaii! And no parabens, added perfumes, etc.

GO (COCO)Nuts!!

If you haven’t heard of the benefits of Coconut water, then probably you are living in Russia or Nova Scotia or somewhere far away – I can’t think of any other names right now. At first, I thought it tasted kinda funky. But, try a few brands. It is very good for you and you do not have to drink Gatorade or any of that flavored water crap anymore. This is all natural. That Vitamin Water is soooo false advertising. It;s chemicals. Coconut water is not. It is pure. Drink it. But be careful – it does have calories, so only drink it knowing that. Don;t have 5 cans a day and then come crying to me because you put on weight!! I also love these coconut snacks but they again have a lot of calories. Buy natural shredded coconut at Whole Foods or other health store and put it on ice cream, chicken breast, salad, etc. Yum! Don’t buy the sweetened shredded coconut at the grocery store unless you are looking for candy!

PINK PIZZAZZZ

Okay, feathers are everywhere. I for one, am already over the feather extension in the hair. Sorry! It’s like the UGG craze – it came too fast to be cool. When everyone in Milwaukee is wearing Uggs, you know the coolness factor is long gone. I feel the same way about feather hair.

HOWEVER – I think feather accessories are still cool and these pink earrings from Wet Seal were cheap and they are cool. Throw them on. Voila – you are a rockstar.
