Hi Ladies!!
I know it’s Tuesday, but it’s summer so EVERY DAY should be FUNDAY!!
We all work, whether at home, or an office, or with our kids – busy, busy busy! It is already July 12th and summer is sprinting by! You do not have to fly to Fiji to have a super time. There are plenty of inexpensive fun things to do, right in your hometown. Make sure you do some fun things that are specific to the summer. Like…
THE SAWDUST ART FESTIVAL
Laguna Beach is GORGEOUS and not too far from L.A., the Valley and other cities so GO!! There is so much art to see and it is fun for everyone. Plus, at only $7.75 per person ($3.25 for kids), it’s a bargain. Very cool art to see and then you can go walk around the adorable town of Laguna or hit the beach!
I picked up a very cool vase for someone for Christmas and got that done super early!! And, I found this gorgeous, inexpensive sweet little hummingbird painting. I LOVE it and will always remember where I got it!

PAGEANT OF THE MASTERS
There is NOTHING like this experience. Nowhere in the country or maybe even the world is there a show like this. First of all, the setting is so beautiful. Set in the mountain in Laguna, it is an outdoor theater that is just lovely. The Hollywood Bowl has a prettier stage, but this is much more intimate and woodsy feel.
Then, there is the show. They recreate famous works of art LIFESIZE using REAL PEOPLE. It is so cool!! Every single time I go, I am blow away by what they do. I took my husband there last year for his first time as a birthday surprise and he absolutely loved it. We bring binoculars and are just mesmerized at how they recreate perfectly these famous works of art – everything from paintings to sculptures to jewelry – all life size. The theme this year is Only Make Believe and it is wonderful! Kids will love it. Chic out-of-town friends will love it, your mom will love it. They are only around for summer, so get tickets now!
I’M ON A BOAT AND….
Most of us don’t own a boat, me included. Sure, it would be nice to have a yacht. But for those of us living in the real world, there are options. Duffy boats are these adorable little electric boats that are perfect for cruising! We were lucky enough to be invited out on a friend’s boat but you can rent them too and it’s not that expensive, especially if you get some friends and do it together. A few years back, we rented a Duffy in Marina Del Rey and surprised our friends with a birthday lunch cruise. It was so fun! We brought food, drinks and birthday cake. Plus, it doesn’t require any training. You drive it like a car.
There are also sailing cruises – I did a TERRIFIC one in New York City that left from Chelsea Piers. It was a really lovely way to see a different view of Manhattan. AND, I am embarrassed to say that when I LIVED in New York, I never went on a boat cruise. It took me becoming a tourist again to discover this great idea! The summer is all about the ocean, swimming in it, staring at it, and boating on it so climb aboard and anchors aweigh!!!

THE L.A. and OC FAIR
Rides, people-watching, games so you can win that giant stuffed dog (my husband won one for me), fattening foods like chocolate-covered bacon and fried snickers. Need I say more??!! I still have memories of going to the Blue Hill Fair in Maine as a kid!

AND for all of you who don’t live in Southern California (sorry), there are plenty of outdoor art festivals, boat rentals, outdoor concerts and more. I remember back in my hometown of Boston, seeing the fireworks and the Boston Pops on the Charles River. It was the best ever! Go enjoy and have no regrets that summer passed you by!!
